Hello and welcome to Zion!
Why are you here? I’m not just asking why you’re here at our webpage, or even why you’re interested in Zion. I’m asking why you are here, here. As in—what’s your purpose? Why are you alive at this place and time in the history of the universe? What do you see as your role in the whole scheme of things? If you’re asking this question of yourself, great! If not, then I’m asking you! I recently found myself asking myself this question. Deployed to Iraq, thousands of miles away from my family, from Zion, and from Marengo, Illinois...I asked this question more than once. “What in the world am I doing here?!!” This question usually comes at times when things seem out of the ordinary. When you find yourself in a situation that you have no idea how you got there, or how you’re going to get through it. The answer to this question is exactly why we exist here at Zion Lutheran Church and School. Everyone who walks through the doors of our church or school, at some point, should hear the answer to that question. We are here to proclaim Jesus Christ. This is why we are here. This is why our Lord still takes us places we wouldn’t go ourselves. This is why the universe still exists. And so, this is why you and I are here. You see, if the Creator of the Universe didn’t intend for you to hear of, believe in, and tell others about His Son Jesus Christ, then creation itself would collapse. Without the grace, mercy and love of God through His Son Jesus Christ, not only would we have no purpose, but we wouldn’t exist. Everything is about Christ and what He has accomplished for us. The life, suffering, death, resurrection, and return of Jesus Christ...that is why I am here. That is why you are here. That is why everything is here. We pray that you are regularly asking eternal questions. And we pray that you are regularly hearing the answer, by visiting with us, worshipping with us, and participating with us in the greatest mission of all eternity: Telling everyone what He has done! For no matter how many promises God has made, or how many times we ask eternal questions, the answers are "Yes" in Christ. (2 Cor. 1:20) In His Grip, Pastor Ray Ayers |
